Movers Canary Wharf Health and Safety Policy
Movers Canary Wharf is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, customers, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This Health and Safety policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with removals, packing, loading, transport and related services.
Our Health and Safety Commitment
We aim to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health by identifying potential hazards and implementing effective controls. Health and Safety is an integral part of our planning and decision making. We continually seek to improve our performance and maintain high standards across all aspects of our moving and storage operations.
Management accepts overall responsibility for Health and Safety and ensures that adequate resources, information, instruction and training are provided so that work can be carried out safely and without unnecessary risk.
Legal Compliance and Continuous Improvement
Movers Canary Wharf complies with all relevant health and safety laws and regulations that apply to our activities. We keep our procedures under review in line with changes in legislation, best practice in the removals industry and feedback from staff, customers and other stakeholders.
We review this policy regularly and revise it as necessary to reflect changes in our operations, risk assessments, or applicable requirements. All employees are informed of any significant updates and are expected to follow the revised arrangements.
Roles and Responsibilities
Health and Safety is a shared responsibility. Everyone working for or with Movers Canary Wharf must take reasonable care for their own safety and the safety of those who may be affected by their actions.
Management is responsible for providing safe systems of work, suitable equipment and appropriate training. Managers and supervisors must ensure that risk assessments are carried out, control measures are implemented and team members understand and follow safe working procedures.
Employees must cooperate with all Health and Safety measures, use equipment correctly, follow instructions and report hazards, accidents, incidents and near misses promptly. Workers must not undertake any task for which they have not been trained or where they feel conditions are unsafe.
Contractors, subcontractors and agency staff working on behalf of Movers Canary Wharf are required to comply with our Health and Safety policy, site rules and any specific instructions related to the job.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We assess the risks associated with our removal and delivery activities, including packing, manual handling, use of vehicles, access to properties, use of lifting equipment and storage. Based on these assessments we put in place practical controls to minimise risks as far as reasonably possible.
Risk assessments are reviewed periodically and whenever there are changes in the nature of our work, our equipment, or the environments in which we operate. Employees are informed of the findings of risk assessments and are expected to follow the identified safe systems of work.
Manual Handling and Lifting
Manual handling is a core element of our services and a key area of risk. Movers Canary Wharf trains staff in correct lifting and carrying techniques, safe team handling and the use of lifting aids where appropriate. We aim to reduce the need for manual lifting where possible and to match the number of staff on each job to the size and complexity of the move.
Employees must always assess the load, the route and the environment before lifting or moving items. Loads that are too heavy or awkward must not be handled by a single person. Where there is doubt, assistance or equipment must be used. Staff are expected to use appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves or safety footwear, where required by the task.
Vehicles, Transport and Site Safety
Movers Canary Wharf maintains its vehicles and equipment in safe working condition. Drivers must hold the correct licence, complete necessary checks before use and follow all road safety requirements. Vehicles are loaded and unloaded in a manner that prevents falls, collapse of loads or harm to staff, customers or the public.
When working at customer premises or other sites, our teams take care to protect people and property. This includes using safe access routes, securing doors or gates where necessary, and maintaining tidy work areas to reduce the risk of trips and falls. Where required, warning signs, barriers or other controls may be used to protect those nearby.
Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment
All equipment used in the course of our operations, including trolleys, ramps, straps and lifting aids, is selected, maintained and used in accordance with safety requirements. Faulty equipment is reported immediately and taken out of use until it can be repaired or replaced.
Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided where risks cannot be fully controlled by other means. Employees must use this equipment as instructed and report any defects or issues without delay.
Training, Information and Supervision
We provide initial and ongoing training relevant to the tasks performed by our staff. This includes Health and Safety inductions, manual handling training, safe driving practices, use of equipment and emergency procedures. Supervisors and team leaders monitor working practices to ensure that safety procedures are followed and to provide guidance where necessary.
Information on hazards, control measures and safe working methods is communicated clearly and in a way that can be understood by all employees. Staff are encouraged to ask questions and seek clarification whenever they are unsure about a Health and Safety matter.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, injuries, incidents and near misses must be reported as soon as possible. Movers Canary Wharf keeps records of such events and investigates them to identify root causes and implement improvements to prevent recurrence. Where required, serious incidents will be reported to the relevant authorities.
Employees are made aware of emergency procedures, including what to do in the event of fire, serious injury or other emergencies during removals or while at premises. First aid provisions are maintained in line with the nature and scale of our operations.
Consultation and Employee Involvement
We recognise that employees are often best placed to identify practical safety improvements. Movers Canary Wharf encourages open discussion about Health and Safety issues and welcomes suggestions for safer ways of working. Concerns raised will be taken seriously, investigated and addressed where appropriate.
Policy Review and Communication
This Health and Safety policy is communicated to all employees and is available to customers and other interested parties on request. It is reviewed at regular intervals, and whenever there are significant changes to our operations or to Health and Safety requirements. By working together, we aim to maintain a safe, professional and reliable moving service for all.
